Personal
John L. Kaczynski is a Republican County Commissioner for the 7th District of the Saginaw County Commission (Birch Run, Frankenmuth, Taymouth).He has served in this role since 2025. As a Commissioner, he currently serves on the County Budget / Audit Committee, County Services Committee, Great Lakes Bay CVB Board of Directors, Saginaw County CVB Board of Directors and the Harry Browne Airport Board.
He and his spouse, Martha Zehnder Kaczynski reside in Frankenmuth with their 5-year-old son, George. John is a 4th generation resident of the Great Lakes Bay Region, while his spouse Martha is a 6th generation resident of Frankenmuth. They are both proud to have been raised and continue to work, live, and play in this community.
Mr. Kaczynski has served in public service for nearly 15-years, serving in various roles on the Frankenmuth Planning Commission, Kochville Downtown Development Authority, the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! Workforce Development Board or most recently serving on the Frankenmuth City Council. He is proud of his record of service through advocating and fighting for more resources to our communities. Ranging from advocating for funds from the federal government to help expand our recreational activities to working toward improving public safety.
John currently serves as the Vice President of Governmental and Community Affairs at Saginaw Valley State University and prior to this served as the Director of the Center for Public Policy Service. Prior to serving at Saginaw Valley, he worked and interned for legislators in Lansing and Washington DC.
Mr. Kaczynski currently serves as Chairman for the Michigan Works Association Statewide Board of Directors and Vice-Chair for the Michigan Political History Society. He also serves on the Michigan College Access Network Board of Directors, as well as on the Michigan Political Leadership Program Advisory Board. In the Great Lakes Bay Region, he serves on the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce and the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Boards of Directors. He is also a member of Frankenmuth Rotary.
John is a current student in the Higher Education Administration Ph.D. program at the University of Toledo. He also holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Public Administration from Central Michigan University; and is a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program.
